OLLF Newsletter – Fall 2022

As we approach the end of our fiscal year Sept. 30th, I wanted to share some highlights of the past year for the Oak Lawn Library Friends (OLLF).

Every September, OLLF participates in the North Texas Day of Giving. This year that event takes place on Sept. 22nd with early giving starting on Sept. 1st. This is our largest individual fundraiser.

After we received the check in late October, we had our regular meeting with the branch manager. She identified a need for books and we committed a $1,000 towards purchasing those materials. In total, we bought 47 books. A portion were purchased in November and a 2nd batch in July. Many of the books are already on the shelves of the library.

Our 2nd biggest expense this year was for a subscription to BookPage for 100 copies a month of this magazine it costs us $684 a year for 1200 total copies. It is filled with information on new books that have just been printed or available as audio books. It is a popular item at the library and covers books in all formats. Here is the image for April BookPage.

Our website has grown in size and popularity over the past year. Our unique author pages section has grown to almost 3,000 authors. It covers authors new and old with author biographies, books in order of publication.

We have also funded adult programing on how to make soap and bath salts and prizes for the transgendered art show. Our monthly art shows are now hybrid. Some appear only online and others are on the walls of the library and online.

Now that library programs are in person, OLLF will be there to help supplement city funding.
