I’m a Hong Kong-based kidlit author whose focus is on writing stories found in the footnotes of Jewish history books.
Some of my childhood favorites were All-of-a-Kind Family by Sydney Taylor, everything by Judy Blume, The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, Flowers in Full Bloom by Huang Ching-sun, Zlateh the Goat by Isaac Bashevis Singer (Illustrated by Maurice Sendak), and Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder. There weren’t many books available then that featured Jewish characters, so I was particularly drawn to those that did. I still love reading kidlit. I particularly enjoy historical fiction and folktales and any book that features third culture/ multi-cultural kids, Judaism, and/or Asia.
