OLLF Newsletter – Summer 2023

      It has been a busy winter and spring for the Oak Lawn Library Friends (OLLF).   We have funded several programs and added materials and equipment to the library.

          Highlights for program funding include: 

a) A Black Superhero program in February.

b) A Pokémon program for kids.

c) A Pottery class for adults.

d) Seminars taught by the Dallas Master Gardener’s Club for adults

          Funding for books and equipment:

  1. $500 of new books for the library in Feb.   Here is a link to the some of the books that we purchased in Feb. :

  • A Cricut machine which has been used by the program staff to enhance programs and the library.
  • A sewing machine for a series of sewing classes this summer.
  • $1,000 towards the Summer Reading program for children.
  • $100 for a book swap program in June.

Make your own colorful wreath out of pom poms, and show off your creative skills.

Pride Rocks! Thursday, June 15 from 4-5pm

          Show your creativity and celebrate Pride with us by painting your own rock.

For Adults

Felt Flower Artistry DIY, June 7 5-6pm

Join us for a felt artistry craft and make some forever flowers!

Community Closet and Rainbow Market June 17 10am-1pm

Free gender affirming closet, arts & crafts, and local vendors and small businesses will be in the library to celebrate Pride Month.

Pride Book Swap, Saturday June17 10am-1pm

Will be happening during the Community Closet; anyone can bring a book to swap. For Adults and older teens.

Rainbow Listening Party Wednesday, June 21 from 5:30-6:45pm

Join us to listen and learn about your favorite LGBTQIA artists, and find some new music and artists you may not have already known!

DIY @ DPL: Seal Salt Texturizing Hair Spray for All Hair Types Thursday, June 25 from 5:30-6:30p

Make your own homemade, DIY sea salt spray for the perfect just-been-to-the-beach look

We continue to fund a subscription to BookPage for 100 copies a month.  This magazine has news on the newest books coming out.

Our website currently has over 3,400 author pages.  It covers authors new and old with author biographies, books in order of publication.

To fund this support, we depend on donations, grants, and memberships.   We also participate in the Kroger Care program and the North Texas Day of Giving.
