Jakob Guanzon was born in Manhasset, New York, and raised in Minnesota. He holds a degree in sociology from Hamline University and a Master of Fine Arts from Columbia University. He lived in Madrid, Spain for several years, where he began teaching, translating, and publishing prose.
In 2015 he moved from Madrid to New York City, where he continues to live and work. His writing has been nominated twice for the Pushcart Prize.
Jakob Guanzon’s excellent debut novel, Abundance, is the story of a father and son scraping by in a country that relegates its most vulnerable to day-to-day survival. Despite that struggle, Guanzon infuses his characters with spirit and fight, and renders them in prose that is sharp, blunt, and lyrical, all at once.
