Margaret grew up in a military family, where both her parents and her uncles all served in the U.S. armed forces. As a child, she was steeped in stories of bravery and sacrifice, formed through a weekly family ritual of viewing World War II movies and trips to famous military battlegrounds. She studied International Affairs and Russian at Lewis & Clark College, and later studied Arabic at Hebrew University.
For the last 20 years, Margaret has lived and worked in thirty-two countries on four continents. She started her career as a financial reporter exploring the emerging markets after the breakup of the Soviet Union. She covered the start of the war on terror from Pakistan and Afghanistan for Cox Newspapers, the parent company of the Atlanta Journal Constitution, before moving to Jerusalem.
