Jade Lady Burning is the first book in the George Sueno series by published author Martin Limon told as only someone that has been through it could tell it. The setting is after the Korean War has finally ended and around two decades past that official point, not all that much has changed.
The United States has decided to situate their military in different places and their presence is still very much felt throughout South Korea. On top of that, the war has ended but it turns out that there is still a lot of stress when it comes to troops being stationed in the area.
As it turns out, there is quite a bit of tension brewing between the local people that live in South Korea and the outsiders that cannot ever call this their home country of origin. The Koreans are no great lovers of the American soldiers, in part because they are taking the time to go into their bars and drink and do not shy away from cavorting with Korean women.
So it is not that surprising that some Koreans will not be shy to find a reason to dislike the soldiers. It was always a shaky peace that was being honored between the men stationed here and the people that grew up living here. All that is at risk of changing when one of the Korean young women is found killed.
Pak Ok-Suk was a young lady of the area that was discovered killed, her body left inside an apartment that had totally gone up. The apartment was located in Seoul’s red light district in Itaewon. Some speculate that it might have been her boyfriend that did it. It’s all too easy to wonder who did it, and it’s not hard for Koreans to point the finger at the American soldier that had the most motive to kill her and attempt to cover it up or simply burn the evidence.
It’s not known who did it for sure, but rumors are starting to fly around the town. It is up to the men working the case to figure it out. This time, that means the 8th Army’s Ernie Bascom and George Sueno, both sergeants in the United States Military Police. This case is theirs, but it’s also a tough one because the two of them are finding that the clues that they hoped would be everywhere in this case are just not cropping up like they would hope.
The partners do have one thing to go on, however. That would be a random lead about a connection out there to a well known prostitute. They are going to have to follow it up if they want to find out if there is any truth to it or not if they are going to get anywhere.
The truth is that thee is a lot to deal with when it comes to this case. Sueno and Bascom certainly have their work cut out for them. They are on a mission to try and track down the evidence out there that will be able to clear up this case. There is a lot riding on what they find as a fellow patriot’s freedom as well as his reputation is on the line.
The stakes have never been higher and the two of them need to come up with some evidence that will be able to clear the name of their country man. Will they be able to do it or will they fall behind in their quest to solve this case and set a man free? Read this intriguing action book from author Martin Limon to find out!
Slicky Boys is the second book in the Sergeants series by Martin Limon. If you enjoyed all of the action and the adventure to be had in the debut book, then you’ll certainly enjoy what’s going on in this sequel!
In the last book, two military police men were tasked with solving a violent murder. The crime was one of their toughest yet, but these two partners work better together than they do apart and managed to find some resolution to the crime in the end.
The setting still remains South Korea, and even though the war is over, there are still plenty of gangs roaming the street. Violence still breaks out, just in different forms now. Sueno has worked with Bascom for a long time and by now they definitely thought that they were subjected to most everything under the sun possible.
Even though they didn’t think anything could surprise them at this point, they never saw the Slicky Boys coming. One of the local gangs, the members seem to be everywhere in this place at once. They’re doing major damage and their violence and stealth knows no bounds.
These gang members do everything from shoot to maim to steal, and then they slip away into the night. These two cops will soon find that they are up against a huge force, and that this time they may have met their match at last.
Can the partners take on their new challenges, or will they die trying to do what is right against the gangs? Read this second book in the series to find out!
