OLLF Newsletter – Fall 2023
It has been a good year for the Oak Lawn Library Friends (OLLF). We had a very successful North Texas Day of Giving and we received a grant for $2,000 from American Woodmark.
Highlights for program funding include:
With these additional funds, the OLLF board committed $1900 for new books. Of that $1,900, $400 was set aside for bilingual readers, $1,000 for new adult books and $500 for history books. In addition, we funded the purchasing of a 2nd sewing machine in support of the sewing classes. The books have been ordered and they should begin showing up on library shelves early in 2024.
Our next board meeting will be in January. At that time, we will again consult with library staff and decide what additional funding is required in support of our branch.
We will have additional gardening programs in January and February. The program for January will be on Saturday Jan 20th at 12 noon and will feature plant propagation by seeds and other means. The February program will be about the seed library at the Central Library. There is a small seed library supported by OLLF in the main reading room of the library. There will be additional gardening programs this spring.
Here is a sample list of some of the programs taking place in January:
Beginning Sewing: Goldfish Cracker Throw Pillows
Cursive Handwriting for Beginners (Kids)
Relax & Color: Adult Coloring Session
Monthly Senior Cardmaking & Meetup
Master Gardener with Roseann Ferguson
Geometric Art Coloring (Kids)
Kids’ Squeegee Art Adventure (Kids)
DIY@DPL: Dry Shampoo
We are seeking artists to exhibit for monthly virtual art shows on our OLLF website.
We continue to fund a subscription to BookPage for 100 copies a month. This magazine has news on the newest books coming out.

Our website currently has 3702 author pages. It covers authors new and old with author biographies and books in order of publication.
To fund this support, we depend on donations, grants, and memberships. We also participate in the Kroger Care program and the North Texas Day of Giving.
