Sean Mitchell was born in Bethlehem, Pa., grew up in Dallas and was educated at St. Mark’s School of Texas and Brown University, where he earned a degree in English & American Literature in 1970. He taught English and coached soccer at Cincinnati Country Day School before landing an internship at the Washington Star-News in the nation’s capital and becoming a journalist. He returned to Dallas to edit an alternative weekly, then joined the staff of the Dallas Times Herald as a feature writer, music and theatre critic and eventually moved to Los Angeles to work for the Herald Examiner and Los Angeles Times.
